Gum Disease Treatment in Las Vegas.

Gum Health

Whether you need a routine cleaning or gum disease treatment, we base your care on the health of your gums, not a one-size-fits-all visit.

Widespread, and often silent.

Nearly half of adults over 30 have some form of gum disease. It begins with gingivitis, when gums turn red, puffy and bleed easily while brushing.

Without treatment, it can progress to periodontitis, where bacteria damage the gums and bone that support your teeth. It is a leading cause of adult tooth loss and has been linked with heart disease and diabetes. Finding it early and getting the right cleaning helps bring it under control.

What kind of cleaning is right for you?

How a preventive cleaning differs from gum disease treatment.

Regular Cleaning

(Prophylaxis)

Preventive care for healthy gums. It removes buildup from the visible surfaces of your teeth, above the gumline.

Who is it for?

Typically twice a year

Gums that are pink, firm and not bleeding

Gum pockets of 1 to 3 mm

Deep Cleaning

(Scaling & Root Planing)

Treatment for gum disease. It cleans beneath the gumline to clear away hardened tartar and the bacteria that harm your gums and bone.

Who is it for?

Gums that are red, puffy or bleed easily

Bone loss visible on X-rays

Gum pockets of 4 mm or more

What happens during a deep cleaning?

Scaling and root planing (SRP) halts the progress of gum disease and gives your gums the chance to heal and reattach to the teeth. Your comfort is a priority the whole time.

Numbing

Since we work below the gumline, we numb the area with local anesthetic first. You may feel pressure, but not pain.

Scaling

We clear hardened tartar and bacteria from beneath the gums and inside the gum pockets.

Root Planing

We smooth the root surfaces, which makes it harder for bacteria to stick and gives your gums a clean surface to heal against.

Common Questions

Is gum disease curable?

Gingivitis, the first stage, can be reversed with a professional cleaning and improved brushing and flossing. Once it advances to periodontitis and bone is lost, it can be controlled but not cured. A deep cleaning stops the active infection, and ongoing maintenance cleanings help prevent it from returning.

Will my teeth feel sensitive after a deep cleaning?

Mild gum soreness and some sensitivity to hot and cold for a few days is normal, because root surfaces that were under tartar are now uncovered. Using a sensitivity toothpaste and skipping very hot or cold foods for a few days can help.

Why are cleanings every 3-4 months after a deep cleaning?

Following a deep cleaning, you switch to periodontal maintenance visits instead of standard cleanings twice a year. Gum disease bacteria tend to return to deeper pockets within about 3 to 4 months. Cleaning on that schedule is the most dependable way to prevent further bone loss.

Is the whole deep cleaning done in one visit?

Typically not. Since the area is numbed, we usually clean one side of your mouth first and the other side a week or two later. That keeps you from being numb on both sides at the same time.
